Summer

"This summer, we set sail.
Welcome aboard."

Sail On

The Charts

We'll be stopping in four ports, according to plan.

The Four Ports

Four great works to be completed before the summer ends.

Port I · The Slop Chest

Fit for a Captain

🧵

Well I can't do this in my skivvies. I'll be hand-sewing a complete pirate wardrobe from scratch — period-accurate shirts, breeches, waistcoats, and whatever other garments an 18th-century seafarer might need to cut a formidable figure on the open water.

There's a chance that you may also be able to acquire your provisions from The Slop Chest.

Articles of the Wardrobe

  • ·Quick-drying, period-accurate shirts, skirts, & breeches
  • ·Waistcoat, corset
  • ·Functional belts
  • ·A tricorn hat
  • ·Hand-made jewelry & scrimshaw accessories
  • ·Traditional spins on modern garments
Port II · The Shipyard

I think I'm a shipwright now

A pirate without a vessel is merely a woman with a sword. This summer I will personally build a ship — or at the very least, a seaworthy vessel. Fear not, mateys, I have a plan for this one.

The build will be accompanied by learning celestial navigation, knot-tying, and several new seafaring skills. And a pelagic birding trip, obviously.

Skills to Master

  • ·Knot-tying & rope-making
  • ·Celestial navigation
  • ·Cannon operation
  • ·Exploring new bodies of water
  • ·Wildlife watching from the bow
  • ·Seaport museum field research
Port III · Treasure Island

X Marks the Spot

💀

Prepare for a full-scale treasure hunt party for my friends — hand-drawn maps, cryptic riddles, buried bounty, period-accurate provisions, and all the drama a proper pirate adventure requires.

Choose your crew carefully. Develop a strategy. But be ready to throw it out the window when the journey goes sideways.

Looking for enthusiastic swabbies. Send a missary if you'd like to come aboard.

The Hunt Includes

  • Handcrafted treasure maps & clues
  • Period-accurate food & drink
  • Sword fighting demonstrations
  • Bartering & trading challenges
  • Duels
  • Actual buried treasure
Port IV · The Tavern

Songs from Sea

🎵

If you've been aboard with me before, you know that I take great merriment in hollering — shanties, ballads, and whatever other maritime music the ocean demands of me.

Sea shanty nights at local taverns will provide research. At the end of the summer, we will be the most demanded group of bards New England has ever known.

Tracklist TBD

  • Original sea shanties & ballads
  • Less-than traditional arrangements
  • Field recordings from the high seas
  • Self-recorded & self-produced
  • Looking for friends who sound like they've once drowned in grog

The Articles of Agreement

The Pirate Code

  • I. Every crew member has a vote in affairs of moment; she has an equal title to the provisions at sea.
  • II. A captain in pursuit of her craft shall not be deterred by embarrassment, self-consciousness, or the fear of cringe. The work is the work.
  • III. No skill shall be deemed beneath the captain. If it is useful on the high seas, it shall be learned and documented.
  • IV. Should the captain fail to complete a task, she shall document her failure honestly and sail on. No quarter for self-pity.
  • V. Booty to be split evenly among captain and crew.
  • VI. Deference to one another is expected. Our crew is representative of a global community, but our journey has brought us to the same locale.
  • VII. All disputes amongst crew shall be settled on shore, at sword or pistol — or best two of three rounds of Rochambeau.

Captain Julie the Merciless
